About This Role:

 

The Director of University Printing is a unique opportunity to lead a cutting-edge, in-house production operation that serves the communications and marketing needs of the University and beyond. This role will further position University Printing as a vital partner for its clients, helping the university excel in its visionary strategic effort of inspiring learning, creativity, discovery, and engagement that positively impacts society and transforms lives in Kansas and around the world. 

 

As Director, you will oversee all day-to-day operations, including strategic planning, production, customer success, fiscal management, and staff development. In conjunction with an established leadership team, the Director will: 

  • Create and implement strategic goals that align with University and Department vision and mission. 
  • Monitor business and industry trends, keeping the in-house operation at the forefront of capacity and technology to create dynamic solutions for customers’ needs. 
  • Expand operational capacity by maintaining existing and fostering new strategic vendor partnerships. 
  • Utilize organizational staffing plans to leverage current and attract new talent who thrive in a customer-focused, results-driven organization. 
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages continuous learning and skill development.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of management experience in a production or creative environment.  
  • A degree in printing management, graphic arts, business administration, or a related discipline. 
  • Experience with budget development, cost control measures, and financial reporting.  
  • Knowledge of pricing models, cost estimation, and procurement processes within the printing industry.  
  • Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to build relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions. 
  • Ability to anticipate business and industry trends, supply chain health, and adopt innovative business technology applications.  
  • Experience building partnerships and working collaboratively with teams and individuals.  
  • A solid understanding of printing technologies, equipment, and software, including familiarity with digital, offset, large format, and variable data printing.  
  • Knowledge of color management, prepress processes, and workflow optimization.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

$78,359 - $129,277
