About This Role:

The College of Architecture, Planning and Design at Kansas State University is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor. The college has a centralized advising model with four advisors who serve approximately 900 students. The advising team’s overarching mission is to enhance student success by providing individualized and comprehensive advising services that meet the needs of a diverse student population. The academic advisors work very closely with the other Student and Administrative Services staff and academic departments.

Student Services • Serves as the primary guide for students from recruitment to graduation: providing academic advising to both prospective and enrolled students; assists students in developing an academic plan, understanding, and completing degree requirements and completion of appropriate coursework; and advising students on college and university policies and procedures. • Assists students who are having academic or personal difficulties, including connecting them with appropriate community and campus resources.

Communications • Maintains student advising records and provides data to liaison department for accrediting reports, public information requests and other reports. • Creates online and print information and materials for prospective and current students and revises materials and resources as needed.

Team Member • Serves as an advocate for students. • Serves as a resource for faculty and collaborates closely with them. • Serves as a liaison to a college department and communicates any changes or issues affecting students, faculty, and staff • Serves on college and university committees; leads, as appropriate. • Develops and implements activities and programs to support and enhance student success and retention as needed and appropriate. • Participates in professional development and lifelong learning activities that contribute to the overall advising program and the college mission.

Administration • Works closely with the Graduate School to ensure compliance with expectations of both the undergraduate and graduate component of our degree programs. Does the following process related duties: Graduate School Applications, Grad Checks, Program of Study management, Graduation Clearance, Grade Entry Management, Curriculum Guide Updates, DARS updates, and International Study DARs exceptions.

What You will Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated advising or teaching experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Enthusiasm for constantly evolving work environment and aptitude for learning new skills.
  • Ability to develop and sustain collegial and professional working relationships and demonstrate strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Enjoy working as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and capacity to with institutional systems.
  • Excitement for and commitment to student development in rigorous and creative academic programs.

Other Requirements:

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

$42,000 - $50,000
