Following an announcement by the Tasmanian Government, a Public Health Direction was issued on 10 September 2021 requiring that all Health Workers are vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.

Applicants for any position within the Department of Health must be prepared to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment.

The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for the Tasmanian Anaesthetic Training Program (TATP) Senior Registrar/Provisional Fellowship/Advanced Trainee vacancies.

Through the TATP, provisional fellowship positions are available at the Royal Hobart Hospital and Launceston General Hospital.  These positions are approved by ANZCA for provisional fellowship.  In addition, ANZCA advanced training positions are available at the Royal Hobart Hospital. All positions can be for 12-months, with the potential for longer appointments. 6 months appointments will be considered.

Tasmania offers excellent general provisional fellowships with a range and diversity of ongoing clinical experience not matched by many interstate centers. Tasmanian hospitals offer a comprehensive and ongoing exposure to trauma, obstetrics, pediatrics, and tertiary level services including neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery.  The range and consistency of exposure to broad clinical areas allows successful applicants to achieve high levels of clinical competence and confidence.

In addition, Tasmania provides a responsive and individualised approach to provisional fellowship and can support interests in many fields of clinical and professional practice including perioperative medicine; learning, teaching and simulation; welfare; and environment and sustainability.  Candidates can discuss their specific needs and interests with the TATP for consideration.

Provisional Fellowship positions in Tasmania provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to develop broad skills required for successful independent specialist practice on completion of their FANZCA. The range of clinical exposure combined with opportunities to develop leadership skills, collaboration and mentorship from collegial departments and strong teaching support the provisional fellow to develop the necessary management and communication skills to compliment clinical competence.  These appointments are highly rewarding positions in a friendly supportive department that promotes excellence in practice, collaboration, education, and research.

Provisional fellowship positions in the TATP can be a great foundation for opportunities to progress to specialist practice within Tasmania.

Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH)

Provisional fellowships / senior registrar

The provisional fellowship positions available at the Royal Hobart Hospital are general positions.  There is comprehensive exposure to all aspects of clinical anaesthesia.

In addition, all positions have scope for special interests to allow the trainee to pursue their own areas of interest. Areas of special interest can include regional anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, environment and sustainability, medical education and simulation.

Advanced training

Advanced training positions are available at the Royal Hobart Hospital. RHH is Tasmania’s tertiary hospital. It offers all clinical SSU’s including cardiac, neurosurgery and paediatrics.  In addition, there is a strong teaching program and support for the final examination. The TATP has a proud record of consistent strong examination success including above average pass rates, and multiple merit and prize winners.

Launceston General Hospital (LGH)

Provisional Fellowship

Launceston General Hospital has a provisional fellowship position that allows the successful applicant to pursue interests in rural anaesthesia, major adult anaesthesia, or upper GI anaesthesia.  It is great opportunity for a senior trainee to develop skills and professional relationships in a large regional centre.
