The Role:
Under the broad direction of the Group Director, Population Screening and Cancer Prevention (PSCP), the primary objective of the Senior Policy and Project Officer is to work within the PSCP Directorate to deliver high level policy analysis and advice, draft high-level documentation and implement projects, aligned with the Directorate’s strategic policy agenda; and provide guidance to other team members as required.
- Provide detailed advice and high-level analysis to the Group Director PSCP and senior managers on PCSP programs (including breast, bowel and cervical screening, and the diagnostic breast imaging services), policy and processes to meet specified program advice.
- Undertake projects that contribute to the successful implementation of strategic initiatives and approved service priorities in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including review of project outputs and outcomes, and the preparation of project documentation, project status reports and communication strategies as required.
- Work collaboratively with managers and other team members to support the planning, coordination, development, monitoring, and delivery of specific projects.
The Senior Policy and Project Officer will work collaboratively with other team members in the PSCP Directorate under broad direction of the Group Director PSCP. The occupant will:
- Provide high level authoritative advice and analysis on population screening and cancer prevention policy and planning including international, national and state issues, and the implications for Tasmania.
- Plan, coordinate and deliver a range of approved projects and strategic initiatives across PSCP services (including breast, bowel and cervical screening, and the diagnostic breast imaging services).
- Exercise sound judgement and initiative, work with minimal supervision and demonstrate autonomy in day-to-day activities.

The Team:
PSCP is a part of Community Mental Health and Wellbeing within the Tasmanian Health Service, and is responsible for delivery of population cancer screening programs, diagnostic breast imaging, and policy and implementation advice for emerging screening programs. We work closely with National and State & Territory counterparts, THS hospitals and external stakeholders to ensure the services we provide are high quality, contemporary and accessible to Tasmanians, and we consistently lead the nation in participation and clinical quality measures. The next few years will bring multiple exciting challenges and opportunities, with expansion of BreastScreen and diagnostic breast imaging in a new Breast Care Centre in late 2025, technology changes including AI in breast screen, Lung Cancer screening commencing in 2025, and melanoma screening and genomic screening on the near horizon.
Details of appointment:
Multiple Permanent, full time, day worker position working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $104,756 to $118,730 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
