Job description:

Department of Health are seeking applications for a permanent full time Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Older Person Mental Health Service Community Team.

The role:

As part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the Mental Health Services Strategic Plan, Mental Health Service principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Clinical Nurse Specialist:

  • Provides expert knowledge utilising an advanced clinical framework in the management of consumers with complex mental health needs within the designated area of practice.
  • Develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates relevant activities to improve patient outcomes within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Participates as an active member of the OPMHS Community Mental Health team in delivering case management, carer education, consultation and collaboration with GP’s and significant others in provision of care to a designated number of consumers.

The OPMHS Community team:

  • Is a dynamic and supportive workplace within Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS), that prides itself on a collaborative and multidisciplinary team approach. 
  • Acknowledges the skills and experience of its team members and allowing them to work, largely autonomously travelling across the southern part of Tasmania visiting clients in their homes and in Residential Aged Care facilities. 
  • Is located at the Repatriation Centre, close to nice coffee shops and lunch locations at Salamanca and Battery Point.

Details of Appointment

Permanent full time, day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary: $103,466 - $109,165 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Payment of $15,000 staged over three years is available for Nurses and Midwives who move to Tasmania from interstate and remain employed full time for three years or more, on top of relocation allowance already available.

Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and possess specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification; or completed, prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, an accredited hospital based program that lead to registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse regulatory authority within Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom.
  2. Current Driver’s License

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  1. Extensive, relevant psychiatric nursing experience and/or is credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse by the Australian and New Zealand College of Mental Health Nurses Inc. or equivalent.
  2. Holds, or is working towards, relevant tertiary qualifications.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  2. sex related offences
  3. serious drug offences
  4. crimes involving dishonesty
  5. serious traffic offences
