Job description:

The Chief Aboriginal Health Advisor provides dedicated leadership, high level advice and strategic directions on actions to improve mainstream health service delivery for Aboriginal people in Tasmania. This is a senior role representing the Department externally and will have a key role in building strong relationships with the Aboriginal Community Controlled health sector, senior sector and intergovernmental stakeholders.

The role:

The Chief Aboriginal Health Advisor provides dedicated leadership, high level advice and strategic directions on actions to improve mainstream health service delivery for Aboriginal people in Tasmania.

This is a senior role representing the Department externally and will have a key role in building strong relationships with the Aboriginal Community Controlled health sector, senior sector and intergovernmental stakeholders.

This senior role will provide leadership to support the implementation of the Priority Reforms and health commitments in the National Agreement on Closing the Gap for the Department.

The position signifies the Department’s commitment to improving Aboriginal health outcomes and is a key action from the Improving Aboriginal Cultural Respect Across Tasmania’s Health System Action Plan 2020 – 2026.

Details of Appointment

Permanent, full time, day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or fixed term full time, part time and casual vacancies.

Salary: $165,446 - $182,913 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Aboriginality. The Head of the State Service has determined that this position is an Aboriginal identified position and that it will be filled in accordance with the guidelines for Aboriginal recruitment.

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  1. An ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and a knowledge and understanding of contemporary Aboriginal culture and society, especially in Tasmania.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
  1. crimes of violence
  2. sex related offences
  3. serious drug offences
  4. crimes involving dishonesty
  1. Identification check
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
