Job description:

We are seeking Medical Scientists to join our Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service who will contribute to the provision of effective pathology services and under general guidance from the Scientist in Charge, perform professional work in one or more sections of the Pathology Department. Perform normal professional work and complex or critical laboratory work under professional supervision.

Position Features
  • Participation in the out of hours call-back service roster is a requirement of this role.
  • This is a shift work position requiring staff to work out of hours as rostered. As defined within the Health and Human Services (Tasmanian State Service) Award: ‘Shift Work’ means work performed in accordance with a roster and may include day shift, afternoon shift, night shift and Saturdays and Sundays.

The LGH Pathology Team:

  • Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service is the only standalone Public Pathology service operating in the Northern regions of Tasmania.
  • We are a category GX multidisciplinary laboratory, and the Haematology department performs a wide array of testing.

Details of Appointment

Multiple Permanent, full time, shift-worker positions working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as we can onboard you.

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or fixed term full time, part time and casual vacancies.

Salary: $71,441- $107,878 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible. 

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Tertiary qualification/program of study in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Science or Applied Science or equivalent suitable to the position from a recognised institution.
     
  2. Eligible for membership with a relevant professional body such as Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists, Australasian Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine, The Australian Society for Microbiology, Human Genetics Society of Australasia or the Australian Society of Cytology.
     
  3. Where these is no relevant professional body, the essential qualification must be met.
     
*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
