Radiation Oncologist – Full-Time Position

The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Radiation Oncologist to join the Northern Cancer Service team. Based at the North-West Cancer Centre in Burnie, adjacent to the North-West Regional Hospital, this full-time position offers the opportunity to provide specialist oncology care within a multidisciplinary team.

As part of a team of five Radiation Oncologists, including two based onsite in Burnie (one existing and this position to be filled), you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality oncology services to the North-West community.

About the Northern Cancer Service:

The North-West Cancer Centre is an integral part of the Northern Cancer Service, a comprehensive and integrated cancer care provider offering state-of-the-art medical oncology, radiation oncology, and haematology services. Serving a population of approximately 250,000 people across Northern Tasmania, the Northern Cancer Service operates across three sites, with radiation oncology offered at two of these locations.

Your Role:

As a Radiation Oncologist, your primary responsibility will be to provide exceptional specialist and subspecialty care to oncology patients, ensuring high-quality treatment within the limits of your clinical privileges. You will be responsible for public hospital outpatients, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and techniques, including SBRT (2025), DIBH, IMRT, VMAT, 4DCT, and 3D planning. Launceston also provides statewide Brachytherapy services, and you will collaborate with teams across sites to enhance patient care.

The Team:

This is an exceptional opportunity to join an inspiring and forward-thinking team, working closely with a supportive and knowledgeable executive team. The Northern Cancer Service prides itself on a strong culture of collegiality, collaboration, and innovation, fostering an environment of integrity and compassion. You can expect to work in an atmosphere of high cooperation across specialties, both within the Northern Cancer Service and across the hospital.

Our clinical trials and research unit, based in Launceston, runs a range of phase 2 and 3 trials, and a rigorous MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) meeting program enhances collaborative patient care.

The Northern Cancer Service is an accredited training facility as part of the Victranet Registrar training network. While the radiation oncology advanced trainee is based at the W.P. Holman Clinic in Launceston, Radiation Oncologists at the North-West Cancer Centre actively participate in the registrar’s education program. In addition, the position in Burnie will be supported by a Career Medical Officer, currently being recruited to assist consultants.

The department at the North-West Cancer Centre is equipped with newly installed, state-of-the-art technology, including two Linear Accelerators, a 3D planning system, and a CT Simulator.
