Job description:

This position provides clinical leadership to our community child and youth mental health program in the NW with a focus on the 0-18 years age group.

Our Aim:

CYMHS Tasmania are seeking a Specialist Medical Practitioner – Psychiatrist with extensive knowledge, expertise and experience in Child, adolescent and youth mental health service delivery and management. This position will be based in Burnie working with Community Child and Youth Mental Health program across the NW region.

The Tasmanian Government are committed to action through the Tasmanian Mental Health Service Reforms with a whole raft of new initiatives in motion to change the shape and improve mental health service delivery. You too, can be part of this exciting work and help build new services and capacity in Tasmania to treat children and young people with severe and complex mental illness.

Through CAMHS Reform, clinical services in Tasmania are under development with many exciting professional, developmental and research opportunities available. This position provides clinical leadership to our community child and youth mental health program in the NW with a focus on the 0-18 years age group. Our vision is to provide world class, innovative mental health care to support our children and young people live life to the fullest with the best possible health and social outcomes.

The role will include:

  • Providing clinical leadership in the delivery of a comprehensive child and youth psychiatric service to the CYMHS Community Program across the NW region working within a framework of established medical services practice, recovery focused and trauma informed care.
  • Participating in the delivery of the community CYMHS program through assessment and treatment of children and young people at various sites across the region including outreach clinics, within the young person’s residence and those young people who present to the NWRH Emergency Department and who are subsequently admitted.
  • Contributing to the effective functioning of the child and youth community multidisciplinary mental health team through participation in clinical reviews and providing consultancy services for other team members.
  • Within the context of the Statewide Mental Health Service Clinical Governance Framework, working alongside the regional Team Leader(s) to ensure clinical governance requirements are met across the clinical stream.
  • Promoting and maintaining close links with other specialists, general practitioners and service providers to ensure continuity of patient care and the ongoing development of the mental health sector.

Note:

CYMHS is interested in hearing from applicants who are awaiting their Fellowship Qualifications, in particular those who have completed child and Adolescent/Youth Psychiatry training, and would meet criteria for appointment as a Career Medical Officer (CMO) during that period.

Details of Appointment

Permanent full time, day worker (with on-call) position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioners 

$210,000 - $301,349 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging 

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $234,726 - $247,768 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • Salary range is in accordance with Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019

*A new wages agreement has been agreed and is currently being registered in the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. The new rates apply to this position and are effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2023

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or (Delete previous for part time SMP) motor vehicle allowance of $25,758 per annum, pro rata
  • Communication allowance of $1,948 per annum, pro rata
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $24,927 per annum, pro rata
  • Relocation and commencement support available up to $15,000 for approved appointees
  • other allowances as applicable

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty (Psychiatry)
  2. Current Working with Children Registration

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  1. Current Driver’s Licence
  2. Supervisor’s Certificate or equivalent
  3. Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
  1. Crimes of violence
  2. sex related offences
  3. serious drug offences
  4. crimes involving dishonesty
  1. Identification check
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
