Job description:

The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of Trauma Services is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for Staff Specialist – Trauma Services vacancies.

Who are we?

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.  All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

The RHH Trauma Service has two key functions: clinical service provision for injured patients and trauma system clinical governance.

Clinically, the RHH Trauma Service is a consultant-led multidisciplinary team that provides timely, evidence-based care to patients with complex or multiple injuries from the point of arrival in hospital until such time as they can be discharged or safely transferred to the care of another team.

While the trauma bed-card has medical leadership, the Trauma Service emphasises the value of nurse-led case management and extensive allied health involvement to achieve continuity of care and to maximise the wellbeing of patients after injury.

The clinical governance function of the Trauma Service includes operation of the state-wide trauma registry, development and revision of trauma clinical guidelines, provision of a state-wide trauma education program and operation of community outreach and injury prevention programs.

The Role

The Staff Specialist will provide specialist medical services to the RHH within the limits of specified clinical privileges and will undertake work within allocated clinical support portfolios that are aligned to the strategic priorities of the Trauma Service.

A few of our benefits:

  • Extensive salary packaging options with excellent leave benefits (including professional development leave).
  • Mentoring and support with an inclusive and well-respected team.
  • Diverse specialist career pathways and professional development.
  • Collaborative relationships with a range of professionals across multiple disciplines.
  • Generous relocation support packages plus accommodation support for when you arrive.
  • Employer visa sponsorship and support for families for overseas applicants.

Hobart, Tasmania

Hobart has become a cultural centre, with year-round art and music events and restaurants serving gourmet local produce. Excellent educational opportunities and easy access to outdoor pursuits make this the perfect place to raise a family. Enjoy a more tranquil, community-orientated lifestyle while remaining only a short flight from the busy mainland.

Experience beautiful beaches and pristine alpine regions where you can enjoy a vast variety of sports and outdoor activities to suit everyone on the doorstep of a bustling capital city while enjoying the advantages of a short commute and excellent work-life balance.

In Tasmania you will be encouraged to be yourself, to learn, to grow and to develop meaning in your work. You will have a powerful connection to your patients and your colleagues, and the community will encourage your success. Our isolation helps drive a culture of creation and human connection, which feels both old fashioned and… like the only future worth pursuing.
