Job description:

Exciting opportunity for a Nurse Unit Manager to join the Department of Health!

The Team:

As the Nurse Unit Manager of the Tasmanian State Government’s operated facility dedicated to providing specialist care for older Tasmanians with complex needs, you will have the opportunity to learn, grow and lead a dedicated team supported by a highly skilled medical workforce.

Older Persons Mental Health involves a unique combination of physical and mental health care, in these roles you will have the opportunity to develop active partnerships to support sector integration and client outcomes, develop and implement ongoing quality improvement, and develop and implement strategies to meet current and future service priorities.

The Role:

The Nurse Unit Manager:

  • Provides leadership to the Roy Fagan Centre.
  • Ensures the efficient and effective provision of care, based on clinical standards and best practice principles within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework by coordinating the clinical, management, education, and nursing research functions within the Roy Fagan Centre.
  • Leads and manages the coordination of overall patient care and is responsible for managing the allocated human, material, and financial resources for service delivery across the unit; and
  • Determines appropriate milestones, priorities, and use of resources for service delivery and outcomes that are in accordance with the business unit’s strategic and operational plans.

You will need.

  1. Demonstrated advanced knowledge, skills and experience in Mental Health, acute care settings and managing multidisciplinary teams.
  2. Demonstrate capability to promote a shared vision and purpose and positively influence others (internally and externally) to ensure optimal client outcomes and build a culture of success, commitment, and active contribution by all staff within the practice area.
  3. Demonstrate capability to be adaptable and respond and adjust easily to change. They are proactive and self-directed and will seize opportunities and act upon them, ensuring improved outcomes for the practice area.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $130,203 to $136,295 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type 

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible. 

Benefits available to eligible candidates:

  • Payment of $15,000 staged over three years is available for Nurses and Midwives who move to Tasmania from interstate and remain employed full time for three years or more, on top of relocation allowance already available.
  • Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and possess specialist tertiary graduate and post graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification; or completed, prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, an accredited hospital based program that lead to registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse regulatory authority within Australia, New Zealand, Canada, or the United Kingdom

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Relevant psychiatric nursing experience and/or is credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse by the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses or equivalent.
  • Relevant post graduate qualifications
  • Current Driver’s Licence
