Job description:

Provide efficient and effective communication, administrative, clerical and reception support to both medical and nursing staff within the direct patient contact area of the Emergency Department (ED), including immediate attention to patients presenting for treatment.

The Team:

The Mersey Community Hospital (MCH), Latrobe offers general and specialist health services including 24 hour emergency department, general medicine, day surgery and endoscopy, rehabilitation, palliative care and oncology services along with a variety of specialist clinics. Mersey Community hospital is a dedicated elective surgery centre and provides a mixture of general hospital services.
 
The MCH ED is a vibrant department with 13 cubicles (2 resus bays, 6 acute bays, 5 sub-acute) plus fast track area and a 7-bed EMU, providing emergency care 24/7.

The Role:

The Emergency Triage Clerk is a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation of the emergency department by assisting with the intake, documentation, and triage processes. You will be the first point of contact for patients arriving at the emergency department, ensuring that necessary information is collected accurately and promptly, handling sensitive information with care.

This position requires:

  • excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment
  • an understanding of medical terminology or the ability to acquire a good working knowledge.
  • Efficient keyboard skills and a good knowledge of computer systems and the ability to learn the software packages specific to the Emergency Department and hospital
  • accurate collection and entering of patient information, including personal details, medical history and insurance information

Details of appointment:

Permanent, part time, shift worker position, working up to 72 hours per fortnight, commencing 2 March 2025.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $73,811 to $79,779 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
