The Role:
Working alongside the multidisciplinary team use lived and recovery experience to support the care-planning and delivery of person centred, recovery orientated and trauma informed care, in accordance with National Standards for Mental Health Services, Agency policies and procedures, legal requirements.
The Consumer Peer Worker under the direction and supervision of the Community Mental Health Service Team Leader/Manager and within the scope of duties for the role:
- Support the key tenets of the Operational Service Model (OSM) for the relevant area, which are to provide a supportive and therapeutic environment that promotes independence, opportunity, and recovery for people who maybe experiencing situational or suicidal distress.
- Provide outcome focused, recovery orientated services to clients of the mental health service.
- Use their lived experience of mental illness and recovery experience to share experiential knowledge, skills and strategies to support individuals to navigate the mental health system and social services system and optimise outcomes for friends, families and individuals.
You will need:
- Act as a positive role model to support people to determine and access the range of services they require to assist them in their recovery journey using their own personal experience of recovery to share information, skills and strategies to assist the individual’s recovery journey and overall wellbeing.
- Work within the Strengths Model of Recovery Orientated Practice. Assisting in discussion, planning and problem solving within the recovery framework as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Assist in discharge planning and implementation for clients, including completion of wellness and recovery plans, assisting in a smooth transition into community rehabilitation and/or recovery programs and community life.
Demonstrated understanding or the capability to understand mental health, and other relevant legislation.

Details of appointment: Operational Health Officer, Level 3
Multiple permanent full time and part time, day worker positions, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Location: Hobart (ACT), Glenorchy or Rosny Park (Clarence CCT).
Salary: $67,193 to $72,126 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
