Job description:

We are seeking a suitably experienced Clinical Nurse Consultant - Navigator to join the Mental Health Inpatient Unit.

The Team:

The Mental Health Inpatient Unit (MHIU) is located in the Royal Hobart Hospital, level 2 and 3K West. MHIU sits under the Mental Health Department (MHD) within the Statewide Mental Health Services' Acute Care Stream and supports adults with serious mental illness across multiple locations, serving southern Tasmania and those best suited to its services.

The Role:

As part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the primary health care principles, Department policies and direction, legal requirements, and relevant professional competencies, the Clinical Nurse Consultant - Navigator (Mental Health) undertakes a lead role in the coordination of patient flow across all inpatient units within the Mental Health Department (MHD) and links directly to broader patient flow for the hospital through the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Integration Operations Centre.

You will need:

  • Demonstrated specialist level knowledge, with advanced clinical management and leadership skills within mental health acute care setting, and the ability to collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary teams to provide a versatile, flexible service which enables care needs for consumer to be met in the most appropriate environment.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills including mediation and conflict resolution skills, with a proven ability to build effective workplace relationships and foster a cohesive team approach across the practice setting.
  • Demonstrated effective organisational skills, with the ability to problem solve and apply principles of clinical risk management, quality improvement and evidence-based practice to the clinical setting and make independent and collaborative judgements.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, part time, shift worker (fully rotational) position, working 60 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $114,851 to $121,886 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Holds or is working towards relevant specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification; or completed, prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, and accredited hospital-based program that led to registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse regulatory within Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom
  • Extensive relevant psychiatric nursing experience and/or is credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse by the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses or equivalent
