Job description:

The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is the largest hospital in the state and is the major provider of public elective surgery.

The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is the largest hospital in the state and is the major provider of public elective surgery, including being the tertiary referral centre for anaesthetically complex patients and the Trauma, Burns, Cardiac Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular and Endovascular surgical sub-specialties from Hospitals North and Hospitals North West. The Surgical and Endoscopy Access Unit is responsible for surgical waitlist management, perioperative optimisation, and the scheduling and communication of all elective surgery operating sessions for the Royal Hobart Hospital.

The Role:

The Surgical Access Clinical Nurse Consultant provides subject matter expertise in the subspecialty composition and demand for elective surgery from the waitlist and undertakes patient safety and service improvement projects to facilitate timely and equitable waitlist management practices aligned with the statewide Planned Surgery Access Policy & Operational Standards 2024. This role includes local guideline development and implementation with Unit & medical staff, change management advocacy, service safety & quality reviews, and regular activity & performance reporting to the Surgical & Perioperative Services executive management team against the Tasmanian Health Services Annual Service Plan.

You will need 

  1. Highly developed clinical management and leadership skills, and demonstrated advanced clinical expertise in the Elective Surgery area in accordance with best practice standards, utilising a high degree of independent decision making.
  2. Demonstrated ability to apply patient access and flow principles to ensure prioritisation of patients/cases as well as efficiency of processes to optimise theatre utilisation.
  3. Demonstrated highly developed communication, interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to apply these skills within a sensitive setting and to ensure effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  4. The person should be able to demonstrate project management experience and be a systems thinker.

Details of appointment:

Permanent part time, day worker position, working 70 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $114,851 to $121,886 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
