The Team:
The role of a Specialist Pharmacist in Oncology and Haematology is vital because it ensures the safe, effective, and personalized use of complex cancer and blood disorder treatments. These pharmacists are experts in high-risk medications like chemotherapy and immunotherapy, working closely with medical teams to optimize treatment plans, prevent harmful drug interactions, and support patients through their care journey. Their contributions directly improve patient outcomes, safety, and quality of life.
The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Cancer and Blood Service is the tertiary service for the state and treats a wide range of solid and haematological tumours and related conditions. The Cancer and Blood service is also the states Bone Marrow Transplant service, providing autologous stem cell transplants and aftercare for allogenic transplants.
The successful applicant will join the existing pharmacy team supporting cancer services at the Royal Hobart Hospital. This position has been added due to the increasing workload, and patient demand faced by the service and thus the increased requirements around chemotherapy checking, ordering and supply. This is a patient facing role, which directly supports cancer services and its patients.
The Role:
The successful candidate will
- Use their experience in clinical pharmacy and Oncology and Haematology to clinically screen and order anticancer treatments and supportive care to both inpatients and outpatients of the RHH Cancer and Blood Service.
- Improve patient care and the safety of patients and staff by working with the existing team to implement patient-focused safety activities to improve medication management and assist the Statewide Hospital Pharmacy service to meet relevant accreditation standards.
- Help provide leadership, supervision, training, and support to other hospital staff, including undergraduate and postgraduate students whose work includes the specialist areas of oncology and haematology.
Note: - Please refer to the Statement of Duties for all the selection criteria of this position to address in your application.
