The Team:
Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) is a community-based service that provides a Statewide service for infants, children, and young people up to 18 years, and perinatal mental health service for expectant mothers. Specialist care includes working with young people and children experiencing attachment disorders, mood disorders, autism spectrum disorders, eating disorders, mental health concerns in pregnancy and following birth, psychosis, severe emotional trauma and adjustment problems and suicide risk and self-harm. The Role:
CYMHS has three Youth Psychiatrist roles available in Tasmania.
- A youth psychiatrist role in the North West of Tasmania providing assessment and treatment of young people with acute needs in a variety of settings including the CYMHS North West Youth Hospital in the Home (HITH) service which works with young people (aged 16-24) to provide an intensive short-term treatment and support in their home rather than an inpatient setting.
- A youth psychiatrist role in the North West of Tasmania providing assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with acute needs in a variety of settings in the CYMHS Community Stream in North West Tasmania.
- A youth psychiatrist role in Southern Tasmania providing assessment and treatment of young people (aged 16-24) with acute needs in a variety of settings in the CYMHS Youth Stream in Southern Tasmania.
The youth psychiatrist will work as part of a multidisciplinary mental health service team in delivering high quality mental health care and, in accordance with Mental Health Services principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Youth Psychiatrist will:
- Provide a comprehensive psychiatric service for the assigned CYMHS service.
- Act as a consultant to mental health professionals and health service providers including general practitioners and other agencies regarding the assessment and management of individuals with mental health disorders.
- Undertake supervisory responsibilities with Psychiatric Registrars and other medical staff as required/ appropriate.

Position Features:
- Participate in an On Call Roster and undertake call back work
- Work outside normal hours and weekend work, which may include ward round as required
- Intrastate travel may be required
Details of appointment:
Three Permanent full time, day worker positions, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.
Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
- Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available
- Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year.
- Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or an allowance in lieu of motor vehicle.
- Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 per annum
- Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.

Eligibility:
Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as
- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty (Psychiatry)
- Current Working with Children Registration
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Supervisor’s Certificate or equivalent
- Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; or
- Certificate of Advance Training in Adult Psychiatry
