Job description:

The Tasmanian Clinical Genetics Service (TCGS) is a Statewide service based at the Royal Hobart Hospital managing referrals across the State via outreach, phone and telehealth.

The Team:

The Tasmanian Clinical Genetics Service (TCGS) is a Statewide service based at the Royal Hobart Hospital managing referrals across the State via outreach, phone and telehealth. The TCGS is a general genetics service including cancer and specialist areas such as neurogenetics, and provides prenatal, paediatric and adult genetic healthcare through direct appointments and participation in a wide range of MDT meetings and clinics across Tasmania. The TCGS team includes dedicated administrative and intake support, research, genetic counselling and clinical genetics staff who work closely together to support the Tasmanian genetic and rare disease community and the healthcare providers involved in treatment and management. 

The Role:

The Genetic Counsellor/Associate Genetic Counsellor will play an integral role in the effective delivery of all aspects genetic healthcare provided by the TCGS to individuals and families in Tasmania. Genetic counsellors/associate genetic counsellors at TCGS operate with a high level of independence within their scope of practice with the support and supervision of experienced genetic counselling and clinical genetics team members. Financial and workplace support to attend individual genetic counselling supervision is also provided for the purposes of HGSA Certification and Registration.

You will need:

  • Thorough and up to date knowledge of current genetic disorders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team of medical and health professional staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with patients and families in both clinical and community-based settings.

Details of appointment:

Fixed Term, Full Time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for approximately a 12-month period.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $77,737 to $111,364 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Membership of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia.
  • Two-year clinical master’s degree in Genetic Counselling from an Australian University accredited by the Human Genetics Society of Australasia; or
  • Comparable qualifications from a recognised tertiary overseas institution; or
  • Part 1 certification (awarded prior to 2010), Board eligible status or full certification in Genetic Counselling awarded by the Human Genetics Society of Australasia.

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered
