Job description:

The role is based in the Strategic and Business Support (SBS) Team in Public Health Services (PHS). The team provides a range of support services across areas such as communications, digital systems, emergency management and incident response, policy and project support, and human resources and administration.

The Team:

The role is based in the Strategic and Business Support (SBS) Team in Public Health Services (PHS). The team provides a range of support services across areas such as communications, digital systems, emergency management and incident response, policy and project support, and human resources and administration. SBS provides these services to all business units in PHS including Environmental Health, Communicable Disease Prevention Unit, Pharmaceutical Services Branch and Health Improvement and Partnerships. SBS team members also work closely with senior PHS leaders to advance strategic and priority work. 

The Role:

The Policy Officer will respond to proactive and reactive requests from internal and external stakeholders for research, analysis and advice on a broad range of Public Health matters. A key part of this role will be co-ordination of Tasmania’s response to the national policy agenda for bloodborne virus and sexually transmissible infections (BBVSTI) – in collaboration and consultation with key BBVSTI stakeholders at state and federal government levels, and within the community sector.

You will need:

  • High level strategic, conceptual, analytical and creative skills with a demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain networks, relationships and effective working partnerships across the Department of Health and with other stakeholders including community and government representatives.
  • Demonstrated high level written, oral and interpersonal skills. The ability to consult, and negotiate effectively, with a wide range of stakeholders across Government and in the community, to create consensus on proposals and ideas.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 24-month period. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $107,899 to $122,292 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
