Job description:

The Royal Hobart Hospital invites suitable applicants to apply for training opportunity within the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine - an accredited training site.

Rehabilitation Medicine is a recognised speciality of medicine with its own 4-year training program and is a Faculty of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. The Royal Hobart Hospital is an accredited training site with four accredited training positions.

A doctor is eligible to apply to be admitted as a trainee at the end of PGY2.

Rehabilitation Medicine is the diagnosis, assessment and management of an individual with a disability due to illness or injury. Rehabilitation physicians work with people with a disability to help them achieve an optimal level of performance and improve their quality of life.

Areas of growth in the future are in ambulatory rehabilitation, academic rehabilitation and musculoskeletal procedural rehabilitation.

Salary

$134,930 - $189,005 per annum

Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

Period of Employment

Fixed term, full time day work, working 76 hours per fortnight plus 10 hours protected training time (pro rata), commencing 2 February 2026 until 1 February 2027.

Note: 24 months negotiable

Duties

The Registrar is responsible for the day to day management of private & public inpatients/outpatients and provides afterhours emergency cover at the hospital as required.

Essential Requirements

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer.  The following checks are to be conducted:

1.  Conviction checks in the following areas:

a)  Crimes of Violence

b)  Sex Related Offences

c)  Serious Drug Offences

d)  Crimes involving dishonesty

2.  Identification check

3.  Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
