Job description:

The Department of Health are seeking a highly self-motivated Clinical Nurse Consultant to join the Communicable Disease Prevention Unit.

The Team:

The Communicable Disease Prevention Unit (CDPU) comprises three divisions: Immunisation, Health Intelligence, and Response including Infection Prevention and Control. The primary purpose of the CDPU is to prevent and control communicable diseases within Tasmania. We actively engage with the public and collaborate closely with stakeholders to prevent and respond effectively to notifiable diseases.

The CDPU has delegated statutory responsibility for aspects of the Public Health Act 1997 and for the Poisons Regulations 2018 relating to immunisation. We receive notifications of diseases from laboratories and medical practitioners as stipulated in the Guidelines for Notifying Diseases and Food Contaminants.

The Role:

This position has a statewide role and functions as an advanced clinical practitioner within the Communicable Diseases Prevention Unit (CDPU) providing expertise and guidance to the Department of Health and other health care providers in the development of systems, policies, procedures and clinical practice protocols in relation to communicable diseases prevention.

You will need:

  • Demonstrated advanced level of clinical nursing expertise in the management of communicable diseases, immunisation and infection control. 
  • Well-developed leadership skills with the ability to collaborate within an inter-disciplinary team and to consult, refer, liaise and negotiate on complex professional, clinical service and health systems issues.
  • Demonstrated capacity to undertake research and develop and apply quality improvement principles and strategies in the speciality area, with the ability to coordinate and integrate findings to support decision making, innovative thinking and objective analysis to achieve agreed outcomes.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, part time, day worker position, working 60.8 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

(After hours work and on-call is required as part of a regular on call roster or in urgent or emergency situations)

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $114,851 to $121,886 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
