
The Team:
The System Management and Reform (SMR) Group of the Department of Health (DoH) fulfils the core system management functions of strategy and planning, purchasing, performance management, monitoring, reporting and analysis on behalf of the Secretary and the responsible Minister.
Strategic Purchasing and Funding manages and undertakes a lead role in the purchasing of services within the public and private sectors that drive high quality, value for money outcomes for Tasmanians, and monitoring the delivery of those services by providers to ensure key outcomes are achieved.
The Role:
The role of the General Manager Strategic Purchasing and Funding is a key element in the DoH plan to build and maintain purchasing and performance monitoring capacity and sustain close, effective and collegial relationships with not only the Agency (as the primary provider of health services in Tasmania) but all providers in the health care sector (public and private).
You will need to:
- Negotiate, develop, and monitor the delivery of the annual service plan, between the Minister for Health and Hospitals South, North/North West, that reflect strategic government priorities for the Tasmanian health system and encourage high quality, value for money outcomes.
- Develop, maintain, implement, and evaluate a strategic, evidence based and sustainable performance management framework for the provision of health and community services as outlined in the annual service plan between the Minister for Health and Hospitals South, North/North West to facilitate the delivery of high quality, value for money health and community services and to inform future planning and purchasing priorities.
- Develop, maintain, implement, and evaluate processes that inform purchasing decisions as outlined in the annual service plan between the Minister for Health and Hospitals South, North/North West and reflect future needs based on appropriate population-based demand modelling.

Details of appointment:
Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $170,409 to $188,400 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
