Job description:

Seeking a Nurse Unit Manager who provides leadership to Anaesthetics and Post Anaesthetics Recovery Unit.

Located within the Peri-operative Suite at the Royal Hobart Hospital, the Anaesthetic and Post Anaesthetic Recovery Unit (APARU) supports:

  • 14 fully equipped operating theatres
  • A 25-bed recovery space
  • Close Observation After Surgery (COAS) care with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio

As the Nurse Unit Manager, you will play a key role in leading the team to provide pre- and post-operative care, including high-level close observation. You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues and an education-focused environment that fosters continual learning and development.

The Role:

The Nurse Unit Manager provides leadership to Anaesthetics and Post Anaesthetics Recovery Unit (PARU)/Main Theatre, Royal Hobart Hospital ensuring the efficient and effective provision of care, based on clinical standards and best practice principles within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework by coordinating the clinical, management, education and nursing research functions within Anaesthetics and PARU/Main Theatre.

You will need:

  • Demonstrated extensive clinical knowledge and experience relevant to the area.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in contemporary nursing management practice, including clinical governance; clinical risk management; evidenced based practice; research; clinical standards; ethics; and legislation.
  • Leadership skills – Individuals will demonstrate capability to promote a shared vision and purpose and positively influence others (internally and externally) to ensure optimal client outcomes and build a culture of success, commitment and active contribution by all staff within the practice area.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible for approximately six (6) months.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $130,203 to $136,295 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
