The Team:
The Nursing Director - Surgery is a key leadership role at LGH and working in collaboration with the Clinical Director of Surgery is responsible for developing and delivering the Department of Surgery Operational Plan. All of our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.
The Role:
- Direct the operational activities of the designated clinical services consistent with Hospitals North objectives and provide effective leadership, coordination and direction for the management of human, financial and material resources to achieve these objectives.
- Assist in the development and application of clinical management policies, protocols and guidelines that will enable the evaluation of services against evidence-based practice standards.
- Manage the Elective Surgery Waiting List in consultation with the Director of Surgery to ensure Elective Surgery Targets are achieved in line with the Hospitals North service agreement with the Department of Health (DoH).
- In consultation with the Executive Director Operations and Performance and Executive Director Nursing and Midwifery, be the single point of accountability for the overall senior leadership, strategic and operational management of the human, physical and financial resources including NHPPD for a defined number of clinical and associated support services
You will need:
- Specialist knowledge and experience in providing operational management, strategic policy, and planning and research for Surgery Services.
- Demonstrated ability in contemporary management, operational planning and critical analysis in a complex environment including knowledge of national and state health issues and reform agendas.
- Ability to contribute effectively as a member of the senior management team with proven experience in the management of human, physical and financial resources, including the ability to manage performance of staff and mentor both senior/junior nursing/non-nursing staff.

Details of appointment:
Permanent, full time, day worker (with on-call) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 29 September 2025.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $159,884 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type
