The position will require the occupant to participate in after-hours work The position will require the occupant to participate in an oncall roster Doctors located in the North West Regional Hospital will be expected to provide Code Blue and MET calls to both public and private patients within the co-located Private Hospital

About the Role and Team:

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Registrar – Obstetrics and Gynaecology, to work for the Department of Health (DoH) in the North West region.

The maternity unit, housing the birthing suite and all inpatient maternity patients for the region, is located at North West Private Hospital (NWPH) in Burnie, with antenatal and postnatal services offered at both the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) and Mersey Community Hospital (MCH). There are approximately 1000 births annually and staffing includes experienced midwives. High risk births are managed in conjunction with the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) and Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) supported by the local endocrinology and diabetic teams. The unit is supported by a Level 4 Neonatal Unit and an 8 bed Level 4 Intensive Care Unit.  Gynaecology services are also provided, with elective and emergency inpatient services located at NWRH and day case surgery also provided at MCH.  Outpatient gynaecology services, including colposcopy are provided at both hospitals and also the outreach clinic located at picturesque regional centres which include the West Coast District Hospital, Smithton District Hospital and King Island District Hospital and Health Centre.

The unit is accredited by RANZCOG for specialist training and also for the Advanced Proceduralist Training Program. There is an active multidisciplinary education program in the unit.

The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School.  As such, you will be participating in and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

Details of Appointment

Fixed term full time, shift-worker position working 76 hours per fortnight with 10 hours paid education time. Commencing 4 February 2026 until 31 January 2027 

 *notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary:

Medical Practitioner Level 5 - 11 $134,930 - $189,005 per annum + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging 

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

  1. General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
