Job description:

As the Head of Department (HoD), perform at a senior level within the Infectious Diseases Unit (IDU) at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH), Hospitals North. Provide a consultative role in infectious diseases to the Tasmanian Health Service (THS), and actively participate in inpatient and outpatient care to public and private patients at the LGH.

About the Opportunity

The opportunity exists for a Specialist Infectious Diseases (ID) Physician to join the team at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) as either a Staff Specialist or as Head of Department ID & a Staff Specialist. There is also the optional opportunity to incorporate a minor Microbiology role for a suitably qualified candidate. The LGH is Tasmania’s second largest hospital, serving the North of the state and a population of approximately 250,000, it has 330+ beds and a tertiary Intensive Care Unit. The LGH has excellent teaching and research credentials with ties to the University of Tasmania Medical School and research supported by the Clifford Craig Foundation. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

The Role:

  • Staff Specialist ID Physician or Head of Department ID & Staff Specialist ID Physician, providing specialist care in ID
  • Provide outpatient consultation to public patients across Northern Tasmania in specialist ID services
  • Provide specialist advice to inpatient units as required, including twice weekly critical care ID rounds
  • Be involved in research and quality improvement activities, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Participate and lead the Antibiotic Stewardship Program
  • Whilst primarily an ID Physician role, there is the option to include Clinical Microbiology, in addition to ID Physician role for a suitably qualified ID Physician

Details of appointment:

Permanent, full time, day worker (with on call) position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as you can join us.

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioners

  • Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1-Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging 
  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
  • The remuneration package for this position, based on classification as a Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 9, starts at $484,000 per annum, with potential for higher earnings dependant on seniority, in accordance with the current Specialist Medical Practitioner Award (Tasmania)

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award. Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata
  • Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 per annum, pro rata
  • Travel and relocation assistance support available

  • A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support
  • Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $13.95 per week per person, or $25.95 for a family

Eligibility:

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as

  • Holds specialist registration in ID
  • Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway
  • Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
  • Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent.
  • Microbial genomics experience or scope of practise in microbial genomics.
