We're seeking a dedicated Pathology Technician to join our dynamic Hospitals & Primary Care - Hospitals South team. The Team:

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and the Molecular department is a multidisciplinary team providing a statewide testing service across Haematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases and Public Health.

We work closely together to focus on development and innovation in molecular testing to serve the growing needs of our community.

We aim to deliver excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.  As a major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.

The Role:

  • Provide technical support to Medical Scientists in the provision of diagnostic services to the Agency and external clients. 
  • Maintaining a high standard of technical work and laboratory cleanliness.
  • Providing technical out-of-hours support to Molecular Medicine as and when required.

Apply conventional practices, methods and standards in Molecular Diagnostics under the general technical direction and supervision of scientific staff. 

  • Perform all functions associated with specimen receipt and processing into the laboratory including logging pathological specimens and results and verifying completeness of information.
  • Receive, direct and handle general telephone enquiries with high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality.
  • Generate work lists, labels, daybook, statistics and any other laboratory information as and when required.
  • Prepare and maintain chemicals, reagents, stains and consumable items, including placing orders with offsite suppliers as authorised by the Medical Scientist in Charge.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, day worker (with on-call) position, working 76 hours per fortnight until 30 July 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $73,811 to $79,779 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • An Associate Diploma from a recognise tertiary institution, or an *equivalent qualification, appropriate to the nature of the work

*Knowledge and expertise consistent with qualifications recognised at Certificate III and IV or equivalent level

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment.
