Job description:

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) or the Department Manager, the Hospital Aide will: • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment and adequate stock supply (excluding drugs) to enable clinical staff to deliver a high standard of care to patients in specialty areas. • Decontaminate, sterilise and maintain specialised equipment.

The Team:

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital in Tasmania. The hospital provides all general and specialty medical and surgical services as well as paediatrics, obstetrics and psychiatry. It is also the state’s tertiary trauma centre.

The Emergency Department (ED) provides a tertiary level service for people with illness or injury 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Our busy ED provides care for >75,000 patients annually with an admission rate of more than 35% and a paediatric case load of 20%.

The RHH Emergency Department has a co-located Emergency Medical Unit (EMU) which is a short stay ward for patients requiring a brief hospital stay (generally less than 24 hours).  The EMU has 24 short-stay beds operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a high turnover ward environment and a variety of clinical presentations.

The Role:

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) or the Department Manager, the Hospital Aide will:

  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment and adequate stock supply (excluding drugs) to enable clinical staff to deliver a high standard of care to patients in specialty areas.
  • Decontaminate, sterilise and maintain specialised equipment.

You will need:

  • Decontaminate, sterilise and maintain general and specialised equipment within infection control guidelines and operate the sterilising equipment appropriate to the specialty area.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of specialised equipment including cleaning of the surrounding environment within infection control guidelines.
  • Plan and prioritise daily workload after handover to ensure readiness of beds and bed space for new admissions.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, shift worker (set rotational) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $63,110 to $66,049 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
