
The Team:
As a Dental Officer within the Department of Health Tasmania, you’ll be joining Oral Health Services Tasmania (OHST)—a statewide public dental service comprising over 350 dedicated professionals. The team includes Dental Officers, Oral Health Therapists, Dental Prosthetists, Dental Assistants, and administrative staff, working collaboratively across 33 clinics, including hospital-based Special Care Dental Units.
The team is known for its supportive and inclusive culture, blending experienced local practitioners with professionals who have relocated to Tasmania for its unique lifestyle and career opportunities. OHST is committed to delivering triaged emergency care, general dental services, and denture care to eligible adults and children under 18, with a strong focus on reducing oral health inequalities through outreach programs such as Fissure Sealant, Fluoride Varnish, and Maternity Services.

The Role:
Provide clinical dental services and associated administrative functions in line with Oral Health Service Tasmania’s (OHST) strategies, policies, and programs. This involves the provision of dental services (at general dental practitioner level) to concession card holders and children in accordance with current treatment guidelines and management policies.
You will need to:
- Provide dental services, in line with the policies, protocols, and guidelines of the Agency and OHST, to eligible adults and children. This may include work in areas such as, but not limited to, community clinics, hospital theatres (to provide treatment under general anaesthetic), Special Care Dental Units, Correctional Services, outreach services.
- Provide dental care for children whose required care is outside the scope of Dental Therapists and/or Oral Health Therapists and provide support to Dental Therapists and Oral Health Therapists as part of the integrated clinical team.
- Assist in the development and advancement of the knowledge and professional skills of other staff within the team including Dental Therapists, Oral Health Therapists, Dental Prosthetists, Dental Assistants, Dental Technicians and other Dental Officers, and supervision of undergraduate students or mentoring of new graduate Dentists.

Details of appointment:
Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $129,130 to $202,386 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Dental Officers Agreement 2022.
