Job description:

Oral Health Services Tasmania (OHST) is seeking a highly motivated Area Manager to lead and manage local dental services.

The Team:

Oral Health Services Tasmania (OHST) is the public oral health care provider in Tasmania and operates as a statewide service. All Tasmanian children aged 0 to 17 years and all Tasmanian adults holding a Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card are eligible for care from OHST.

OHST is a team of approximately 300 people including dentists, oral health therapists, dental prosthetists, technicians, dental assistants and administrative staff.  Care is provided from 33 clinics around Tasmania. Adult services are predominantly provided from 6 major dental centres located in Hobart (New Town), Clarence, Glenorchy, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie as well as the 3 Special Care Dental Units (located within hospital precincts). Child and Adolescent Services are provided predominantly from 23 community clinics which are either located in a community health centre or are a stand-alone clinic.

The Role:

As the Area Manager – North West Region for OHST, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating dental services from OHST’s major dental centres in Devonport and Burnie, as well as 8 community clinics located across the North West. Your main tasks will include:

  • Managing local dental services to make sure they run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Supporting and improving oral health programs by giving advice and helping shape policies and services.
  • Representing Oral Health Services Tasmania at meetings, sharing ideas to improve services.
  • Ensuring strong governance and compliance by implementing policies, monitoring adherence to standards, and maintaining accountability.
  • Meeting performance goals, including financial and activity targets and service delivery outcomes.
  • Overseeing resources, including staff, budgets, and equipment in your region.

You will need:

  • High-level experience in managing a complex regional health service, with in-depth knowledge of contemporary management practices including change management and best practice methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership and supervision to a diverse team, including the ability to develop, monitor and review services, service delivery and service performance to strengthen and grow the capacity of the service.
  • High-level knowledge of all aspects of public oral health service delivery, or the ability to quickly learn and gain a thorough understanding of all aspects of the service and its requirements, including the safety and quality framework within which it operates.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

Salary: $128,102 to $134,832 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
