Job description:

Join the Transit Lounge Unit at the Royal Hobart Hospital as a motivated Patient Flow Assistant

The Team:

The Transit Lounge is a clinical unit that supports the timely transfer of patients both incoming, outgoing and transferring though the Royal Hobart Hospital. The Transit Lounge supports discharge from inpatient units to home, Hospital in the Home service (HITH), and external health facilities. The Transit Lounge also accommodates patients from the Emergency Department or Wellington/Liverpool Clinics who are awaiting admission, interhospital transfers, and direct hospital admissions awaiting an inpatient bed. This centralised approach improves patient flow efficiency and the patient experience. 

The Role:

Under the general supervision of the Registered Nurse and in accordance with Agency policies and infection control and quality improvement guidelines, the Patient Flow Assistant provides:

  • Hospital Aide services, general housekeeping, porterage and resource distribution to the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) campus through the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC).
  • Support and assistance to the Clinical Manager/Patient Flow Managers (After Hours Nurse Managers) in facilitating the provision of an organisational approach to delivery of care to inpatients across the RHH campus.
  • Assistance with the movement of patients within the RHH campus as part of the Transit Lounge Team during business hours.

You will need to:

  • Assist in the transfer of patients, where required across the campus, to expedite access to inpatient beds and encourage patient flow through the RHH during Transit Lounge business hours.
  • Provide Hospital Aide and general housekeeping services including monitoring and sourcing of patient specific equipment and maintenance, working within infection control guidelines, to support patient flow and accessible care within the RHH campus, including attend all Code Blue/MET calls after hours to undertake tasks as directed by the Clinical Manager. 
  • Under the direct supervision and direction of Nursing staff assist in the manual and/or mechanical transfer and positioning of patients and porterage services, including electric wheelchair, overhead hoist, in accordance with manual handling guidelines and legislation.

Details of appointment:

Multiple fixed term, casual, positions working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 12 months. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $63,110 to $66,049 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
