Responsible to the Clinical Director - Women’s and Children’s to assist with providing a high level of strategic leadership and direction, ensuring resources are efficiently utilised, services are effectively integrated within the hospital/service and the highest standards of service delivery are achieved in accordance with hospital/service policy directions, service standards and financial targets. Provide the Clinical Director and/or Nursing Director - Operations NWRH with high quality and authoritative advice and support. Provide specialist medical care to patients attending the hospital/service.
 
Who Are We Looking For?
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Clinical Lead – Obstetrics and Gynaecology to work for the Department of Health (DoH) in the North West region. This role will require the successful applicant to work with the Clinical Director – Women’s and Children’s to assist with providing a high level of strategic leadership and direction, ensuring resources are efficiently utilised, services are effectively integrated within the hospital/service and the highest standards of service delivery are achieved in accordance with hospital/service policy directions, service standards and financial targets. In addition, the Clinical Lead will provide specialist obstetric and gynaecological care to patients attending North West Regional Hospital (NWRH), Burnie and Mersey Community Hospital (MCH), Latrobe.
 
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology provides a consultative service and is supported by a level 4 maternity, a level 4 neonatal unit, and an 8 bed intensive care unit. The maternity unit, housing the birthing suite and all inpatient maternity patients for the region, is located at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH), with antenatal care provided at NWRH, Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) and the outreach clinics. There are approximately 1000 births annually and staffing includes experienced midwives with highly sought after MGP scheme. The outreach services (antenatal and gynaecology clinics) are located at regional centres which include the West Coast District Hospital, Smithton District Hospital and King Island District Hospital and Health Centre. The current senior staffing mix includes full time and part time Specialists, in addition the NWRH is RANZCOG accredited for 2 FRANZCOG core trainees and Advanced Proceduralist trainees. Excellent continuing education opportunities are led by training Registrars with support from the consultants. The gynaecology service includes colposcopy and laparoscopy. 
 
This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels. The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School.  As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program. The successful applicant will participate in the after hours on call roster, based at NWRH.  The frequency of on call is typically 1 in 5 weekdays and weekends.
The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School.  As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, day worker (with on call) position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible for a three year period.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging 

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

• Management Allowance Clinical Lead 5% of base salary

• Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year

• Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata
• Allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
• North West Retention Allowance 20%

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
  • Current Working with Children Registration
