Job description:

The Spencer Clinic is seeking an Attendant to support positive health outcomes for consumers as part of an effective multidisciplinary team.

The Team:

This role is based within Spencer Clinic, a Mental Health Inpatient Unit that offers consumers 19 inpatient beds, including 2 bed high-dependency unit. Spencer Clinic is located within the North-West Regional Hospital, barely 5 minutes from Burnie's CBD.

Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, you will contribute to our consumers health outcomes by working within an effective multidisciplinary team through their recovery journey. No two days are the same in mental health. Some days may be structured with planned duties and others may involve responding to an emergency and thinking on your feet. But we’ll make sure you’re fully inducted and welcomed into our team.  

The Role:

Provide support and assistance to the nursing and medical staff in relation to the care and safety of patients at the Spencer Clinic.

Participate in the maintenance of a safe, clean and tidy ward environment.

Promote the principles of quality health care and customer service and foster a positive environment for patient outcomes.

You will need to:

  1. Assist staff with:
  • General patient care and supervision.
  • Psychiatric emergency or potential emergency situations.
  • With the support and guidance from the Nurse Unit Manager, Associate Nurse Unit Manager or Nurse in Charge of the shift participate in seclusion and restraint of patients adhering to all authorised Code Black training.
  1. Patient/Client Services:
  • Assist staff making and changing beds; toileting, showering or bathing for non-ambulatory, heavy or physically compromised patients.
  • Assist nursing staff in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) as required.
  • Participate in patient care and monitoring under the direct supervision of nursing staff. As ward priorities permit, participate in carrying out cleaning duties in HDU.
  1. Training:
  • Participate in appropriate training and staff development activities, mandatory training including performance development and planning.
  • Orient newly employed staff in local procedures, techniques and policies and assist with their familiarisation to Spencer Clinic.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the functions of various beds, trolleys, patient support equipment.

Details of appointment:

Permanent part time, shift worker position (fully rotational), working 36 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary: $67,193 to $72,126 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
