Job description:

The Receptionist in Medical Imaging is a key frontline role responsible for ensuring a professional, welcoming and efficient patient experience. This position supports the smooth operation of the department by coordinating patient arrivals, managing bookings and enquiries, and providing consistent, timely communication between clinical teams, patients and external stakeholders.

The Team:

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and the Department of Medical Imaging is a dynamic and essential clinical service that plays a critical role in diagnosing and supporting patient care across the hospital and broader Tasmanian community. As the state’s largest tertiary referral centre, we provide a diverse range of high-quality imaging services including General X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine/PET, Fluoroscopy, Interventional Radiology and Angiography.

The Role:

The Receptionist in Medical Imaging is a key frontline role responsible for ensuring a professional, welcoming and efficient patient experience. This position supports the smooth operation of the department by coordinating patient arrivals, managing bookings and enquiries, and providing consistent, timely communication between clinical teams, patients and external stakeholders.

The role requires a calm and organised approach in a busy environment, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining accuracy in patient records and administrative processes. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, customer service and problem-solving skills, and will contribute positively to the broader team culture.

As the first point of contact for many patients, the Receptionist plays a vital role in supporting patient flow, reducing delays and ensuring patients feel informed, supported and respected throughout their imaging journey.

You will need:

  • Previous experience in clerical/reception functions within a hospital environment together with knowledge of procedures and relevant guidelines as they relate to the management of patient information.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective interviewing techniques, ensuring accurate demographic and financial information is captured.  Well developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with patients, clinicians, health service staff and external stakeholders.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the use of office management software, together with Ability to acquire a thorough working knowledge of computer systems, DMR, PC packages, Rados, Terminal Digital Filing together with rapid accurate data entry skills.

Details of appointment:

 Multiple Permanent full time & part time, day worker positions, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $66,049 to $70,993 per annum pro rata. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
