The Team
The Hospitals North West Social Work team provides comprehensive psychosocial care to patients, families and carers across the North West region of Tasmania. The team works across acute, sub‑acute and community settings, including maternity services, women’s and children’s services, medical, surgical, rehabilitation and emergency care.
Based primarily within the Women’s and Children’s Ward, this role works closely with a broad multidisciplinary team including medical, nursing, allied health and community service providers to deliver coordinated, person‑centred care. As part of a regional service, the team collaborates across sites and services and supports continuity of care for patients and families.
The Social Work team is committed to high‑quality, culturally safe and inclusive practice, with a strong focus on child safety, wellbeing and advocacy for vulnerable people. Team members are supported through professional supervision, peer support and ongoing career development opportunities.
In the role of Social Worker, you will contribute to the delivery of high‑quality social work services within Women’s and Children’s services, with flexibility to work across other clinical areas as required. This includes participation in an after‑hours on‑call roster.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide psychosocial assessment and intervention, collaborate with internal and external services, and support integrated care planning for patients and their families while contributing to service quality and continuous improvement.

Position Features:
- Will be required to work on site, may be required to attend home visits and agency visits.
- Travel between the North West Regional Hospital, Mersey Community Hospital and other areas may be required.
- Participation in an after-hours on call Social Work Service will be required.

Details of appointment:
Permanent, full time day worker (on call) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing ASAP.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $73834 to $111,364 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022
Salary Packaging:
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
Allowances:
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

- Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.

Overseas qualified Social Work candidates require a “certification of eligibility” letter from the AASW to confirm their eligibility for membership to the AASW
