Job description:

Assisting in the provision of a safe and effective pharmacy service while undertaking a recognised pharmacy technician training program.

The Team:

Pharmacy Technicians at the Royal Hobart Hospital work in a rotational capacity and participate in activities such as medication dispensing, ward-based medication supply, medication compounding, PBS claiming, inventory management and drug distribution.  Statewide Hospital Pharmacy is committed to the ongoing development of our pharmacy technician workforce and have been working to establish long term career pathways for everyone in our organisation.  We strive to make the pharmacy workplace a positive environment for colleagues, and we want to bring people into our team who demonstrate care, compassion and respect.

The Role:

Assisting in the provision of a safe and effective pharmacy service while undertaking a recognised pharmacy technician training program. 

You will need:

  1. Prior relevant work experience, ideally in a healthcare setting.
  2. Attention to detail and the ability to follow pre-determined procedures accurately and diligently.
  3. Capacity to reflect on own skills and experiences and be responsible for own learning and development.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing in February 2026 for a period of 12 months.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: General Stream, Band 2

$66,049 to $70,993 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Work experience in a healthcare setting

Position Features:

Required on commencement to enrol in a relevant Pharmacy Technician training program (equivalent to a Certificate III Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support) from a recognised educational institution.

The duration of the traineeship will be for a finite period as determined by negotiation between the trainee, training provider and Statewide Hospital Pharmacy, but is limited to a maximum of 24 months duration.

On completion of the qualification the applicant will be eligible to apply for an advertised Pharmacy Technician position.

May be rostered to work weekend or extended hours services.

This is a Statewide Statement of Duties. Depending on the region in which the incumbent is based, the term ‘site’ refers specifically to Royal Hobart Hospital (Southern region), Launceston General Hospital (Northern region) and Mersey Community Hospital and North West Regional Hospital (Northwest region).
