Exciting opportunity for an Assistant Director of Nursing to join the Department of Health!

The Team:

The Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department is a large, dynamic, multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, patient-centred emergency care to Tasmania’s southern community. The team includes emergency physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, support staff and trainees who work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. As part of the Tasmanian Department of Health, the Emergency Department plays a critical role in providing timely assessment, treatment and coordination of care across the broader health system, including inpatient services, community providers and statewide clinical networks. The team is committed to safety, continuous improvement, education and innovation, working together to respond to the diverse and evolving needs of the community, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Role:

The Assistant Director of Nursing – Emergency Care at the Royal Hobart Hospital provides senior clinical and operational leadership within the Emergency Department, supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality and responsive emergency care. As part of the Critical Care, Clinical Services and Investigations stream, the role works in close partnership with medical, nursing, allied health and executive leaders to ensure effective workforce management, clinical governance, patient flow and service integration across the hospital and broader health system. The position plays a key role in driving continuous improvement, supporting staff capability and wellbeing, and translating Department of Health priorities into operational practice to meet the needs of the Tasmanian community.

You will need:

  1. Demonstrated ability to provide contemporary nursing leadership in a complex environment, knowledge of national and state health issues and reform agendas and a track record in achievement of outcomes in areas of responsibility.
  2. Ability to contribute effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary senior management team with proven experience in the management of physical, financial and human resources under a clinical service model or similar environment.
  3. High level interpersonal and communication skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated capacity to listen, liaise, negotiate and engage a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve organisational change.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a period of up to three (3) months. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $154,301 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
