Job description:

Exciting opportunity for an Associate Nurse Unit Manager to join the Department of Health!

The Team/Service:

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and our Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (Cath Lab) is integrated within the Perioperative Precinct. We accommodate elective, inpatient, and emergency cardiac procedures, serving as the THS tertiary referral centre for Southern Tasmania for adult patients with cardiac conditions, requiring angiography, heart studies, structural heart procedures and cardiac implantable devices. Furthermore we provide a state-wide service for electrophysiology (EP) procedures and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). The Cath lab provides a 24/7 emergency on call Code STEMI service. This is the only service available within the THS South for both private and public patients suffering an acute cardiac event requiring emergency time critical care after hours.  Our team work collaboratively to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

As part of our dedicated team, you will provide safe, evidence‑based nursing care for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice and patient experience. You’ll work collaboratively across pre‑, intra‑, and post‑procedure phases, supporting multidisciplinary teamwork and delivering exceptional outcomes.

As an Associate Nurse Unit Manager, you will:

  • Provide clinical leadership and act as a role model for best practice care.
  • Assist the Nurse Unit Manager in planning and managing resources, ensuring smooth patient flow.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and innovation.
  • Support a positive team culture and mentor staff to achieve excellence.

We are looking for

  • Experienced Registered Nurse with strong clinical knowledge in cardiac care specifically in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to coordinate patient care and manage resources.
  • Commitment to teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Postgraduate qualifications (or working towards) are highly desirable.
Reports to: Nurse Unit Manager 

You will need:

  1. Demonstrated clinical experience in the relevant practice area, with the capacity to provide clinical leadership, exercise professional judgement and initiative and work with minimal supervision.
  2. Demonstrated ability to understand the business of the unit/service in delivering the best outcomes within available resources, including a demonstrated understanding of patient flow principles and discharge planning in the pursuit of patient/client goals within a contemporary healthcare framework.
  3. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the evaluation, innovation and development of services provided by the unit/service and the review of clinical practice policy, procedures and protocols.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, full time, day worker (with on-call) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing in March 2026

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $109,767 to $115,813 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
