Job description:

Join our supportive team as a Paediatrics Registrar at Launceston General Hospital, where you will assist in delivering high-quality paediatric and neonatal services within Women’s and Children’s Services.

The Team:

The Launceston General Hospital is recruiting for a Paediatric Registrar for 2026 with a commencement date as soon as possible!! With the implementation of the new EBA providing competitive wages and paid education time, there is no better time to work in Tasmania, the island state of Australia!

We are a regional hospital with a brand new and exciting Paediatric short stay unit; as well as a 34 bed General Paediatric ward, 12 bed Level 2 neonatal nursery and Paediatric outpatients. The unit is staffed 24 hours a day by registrars and HMO staff, with consultant oversight on site during working hours, and on call overnight. The current staffing is 9 registrars/ HMO, a Senior Registrar and 7 paediatric consultants.

Daytime shifts as well as afterhours work and weekend rotations will be required as rostered. Current hours would be 76 hours PLUS 10 hours teaching time.

We pride ourselves on being a lovely supportive team and you will be very well supported in this position. The unit has an active education program and is accredited by the RACP for Advanced Training for General Paediatrics with a Perinatal Component, Community/ Developmental Paediatrics and rural rotations. We are also a secondment site for basic trainees from the Royal Hobart Hospital, and if you are early in your career, this position will be a good springboard to entering the RACP training program.

12 month full time contracts are preferred, but we are open to flexible conditions encompassing full time or part time positions.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, shift worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible until 31 January 2027.

You will receive 10 hours of paid, protected training time per fortnight, pro rata.

Salary: 

Registrars 

Medical Practitioner Level 5 - 11 $134,930 - $189,005 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

Eligibility:

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia

  • Enrolled in the relevant speciality training program

  • Current Working with Children Registration

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Registration as a candidate of the relevant learned college, or evidence of ongoing participation in and a commitment to continuing medical education

  • Successfully completed all fellowship examinations relevant to the training program and employment, and is within 1 year of obtaining specialist fellowship
