Job description:

In this you will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in ward and ancillary areas in accordance with established policies, standards and guidelines.

The Team:

New Norfolk District Hospital (NNDH) is a 14‑bed regional facility providing sub‑acute care, radiology, physiotherapy, podiatry, community nursing, mental health, child health services, and access to visiting consultants, serving both locally admitted patients and those transferred from the Royal Hobart Hospital through a regional–tertiary partnership model. As part of Hospitals South within the Tasmanian Department of Health, the multidisciplinary team—including nurses, allied health professionals, community health staff, and visiting specialists—works collaboratively to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based, patient‑centred care to the Derwent Valley community. 

The Role:

The role is responsible for maintaining a clean, hygienic, and safe environment within the facility by performing routine and specialised cleaning in accordance with established cleaning and Infection Control policies and procedures. This includes cleaning and sanitising food preparation equipment, kitchen areas including equipment, utensils, floors and walls. The position contributes to continuous quality improvement, ensures the front entrance and pathways are swept daily, removes rubbish from all areas and transfers it to designated collection points, and undertakes additional cleaning duties such as terminal cleans when required. The role also adheres to the Food Safety Plan by completing and signing the required documentation to support compliance with daily food safety and hygiene procedures.

You will need:

  • Ability to safely and efficiently use and control various items of industrial cleaning equipment including a working knowledge, or the ability to acquire such knowledge, in the use of cleaning chemicals.
  • An awareness of, or the ability to acquire an awareness of, universal precautions and cleaning policies, protocols and procedures relating to cytotoxic and sterile areas and infection control.
  • Demonstrated willingness to participate in quality improvement programs and training activities.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, casual, position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 12 months. 

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $57,130 to $62,486 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

Plus 25% Casual Loading - Equivalent of $36.38 to $39.37 per hour

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
