Job description:

Permanent Role - The Midwifery Practice Group (MGP) are seeking a suitably qualified Registered Midwife.

The Team:

Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) is a caseload model of midwifery, which revolves around continuity of care for women from known midwives.

  • The RHH is the tertiary referral centre for Tasmania, we have around 2000 births each year.

  • MGP at the RHH is an all risk model of care and opportunity to work within and learn from a dynamic multidisciplinary team

The Role:

The Registered Midwife strengthens health outcomes through the provision of safe quality, clinically appropriate midwifery care in partnership with women, their families and other health professionals.

You will need:

  • Current knowledge of, and the ability to apply midwifery principles, procedures and practices in the delivery of patient/client care in a designated practice area and in line with legal requirements and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board (NMBA) Registered Midwife standards for practice. 
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills, including written skills and the ability to function effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment. 
  • Knowledge of continuous quality improvement (safety and quality) and the application of evidence based practice in the practice setting.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, part time, shift worker position (fully rotational), working 64 hours per fortnight, from 18th April 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Location: Hobart, Tasmania

Salary: $80,524 to $109,175 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

Please note: This role attracts an additional all-purpose allowance of 35% in accordance with the Caseload Midwifery Industrial Agreement 2019.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
  • Access to the Grade 4 salary range $102,439- $109,175 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration
