Opportunity is also available for a conjoint appointment with the Department of Medical Imaging at the Royal Hobart Hospital. We offer an exceptionally competitive salary package along with a range of allowances. If you’re passionate about excellence in patient care, committed to teaching and research, and eager to play a key role in improving health outcomes for Tasmanians, we’d love to hear from you.

The Team

The Population Screening and Cancer Prevention (PSCP) unit is the Tasmanian Government’s cancer screening authority and the leading source of information on cancer screening and prevention in Tasmania.

As part of the Tasmanian Health Service (THS), PSCP is responsible for:

PSCP has an established and collaborative working relationship with the Department of Medical Imaging at the Royal Hobart Hospital, providing opportunities for cross‑service engagement, teaching, and research.

The Role

In this senior role, you will deliver high‑quality specialist breast imaging services while supporting service delivery, quality improvement, and education within a public diagnostic setting.

You will provide specialist breast radiology services, including interpretation of diagnostic imaging such as tomosynthesis mammography, ultrasound, and contrast‑enhanced mammography. Procedural work will include core biopsy, fine needle aspiration (FNA), marker placement, and pre‑operative breast lesion localisation. You will also provide expert clinical advice and work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support timely diagnosis and optimal patient outcomes.

Working in collaboration with the Clinical Director and other staff, you will contribute to effective service delivery and ongoing operational improvement.

You will actively participate in quality assurance activities, multidisciplinary review, and research, and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes. This includes involvement in safety systems, continuous improvement initiatives, safeguarding practices for vulnerable people, and related training.

You will also support education and workforce development through the supervision and training of undergraduate and postgraduate specialist trainees.

You will need:

  • Sound clinical knowledge in breast imaging, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
  • Demonstrated skills and attitudes consistent with practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner, including:
    • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
    • Strong communication skills with patients, families, and colleagues.
    • Well‑developed organisational, supervision, and collaboration skills.
    • Commitment to maintaining and developing contemporary clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Experience in quality assurance, quality improvement, and research.
  • Commitment to teaching, research, and continuous professional development.
  • A genuine interest in cancer prevention, early detection, and improving outcomes for Tasmanians.
