
The Team:
The Voluntary Assisted Dying Commission is an independent statutory body established by the End-of-Life Choices (Voluntary Assisted Dying) Act 2021.
The Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting the Commission in the performance of its statutory functions under the End-of-Life Choices (Voluntary Assisted Dying) Act 2021.
The position is required to exercise a significant degree of independence and to operate with considerable autonomy and to exercising a high level of judgment, discretion, and diplomacy, in the performance of all tasks.

The Role:
- Undertake a range of compliance activities relating to the End-of-Life Choices (Voluntary Assisted Dying) Act 2021 including managing the registry processes of the Office of the Commission and providing sound advice and direction to staff, to the Manager, and to members of the Commission, to ensure compliance with practice, procedure and statutory requirements as required.
- Exercise powers and functions under the End-of-Life Choices (Voluntary Assisted Dying) Act 2021 that may be delegated by the Commission from time to time.
- Provide high level assistance to the Manager and Executive Commissioner in the analysis, development, implementation, and review of policies, guidelines and procedures, complex strategic projects and initiatives, research, monitoring, reporting, policy, planning, and quality improvement activities, to identify current and emerging issues, anticipate and diagnose needs, and identify appropriate solutions, so as to support the effective discharge by the Commission of its statutory obligations.
- Manage and prepare high-quality comprehensive, accurate, and timely documentation relating to timelines, frameworks, resources, outcomes and potential risks, through policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, minutes and briefings, reports, plans, presentations, fact sheets, notices, submissions, statements of reasons and other documentation required for, or related to, the End-of-Life Choices (Voluntary Assisted Dying) Act 2021’s operation in Tasmania.

Details of appointment:
Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $128,102 to $134,832 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with the Health and Human Services (Tasmanian State Service) Award.

- Tertiary qualifications in law or other relevant discipline, and extensive experience working in a statutory decision-making environment.
