Job description:

Provide an efficient and effective maintenance, gardening and handyperson service to the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) and satellite sites as directed.

The Team:

The team supports the Department of Health Tasmania by delivering reliable, hands‑on maintenance and minor works across health facilities to ensure safe, functional, and welcoming environments for patients, staff, and visitors. Working collaboratively with clinical, facilities, and administrative teams, Maintenance Officers (Handypersons) respond to day‑to‑day maintenance requests, undertake preventative tasks, and contribute to timely problem‑solving. The team is customer‑focused, safety‑conscious, and adaptable, taking pride in quality workmanship, compliance with standards, and supporting the smooth operation of essential health services.

The Role:

Provide an efficient and effective maintenance, gardening and handyperson service to the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) and satellite sites as directed.

You will need to:

  • Perform regular maintenance duties for Department sites including pressure cleaning, steam cleaning, carpet cleaning, weed spraying, floor polishing, window and glass cleaning.
  • Perform gardening duties, including shrubs, flowers, and lawn maintenance, pruning, spraying, feeding and fertilizing of outdoor and indoor plants, pots and tubs including clinical spaces.
  • Washing walls and ceilings, removing, cleaning and replacing air vents and light covers.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time shift worker (fully rotational) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $63,110 to $66,049 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
