Job description:

In this role, you will undertake specialised financial and administrative duties, including maintaining financial records, in accordance with relevant service standards, legislation and Departmental policies and procedures.

The Team:

The Revenue Management Team plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely billing and revenue collection across the Department of Health. The Revenue team is responsible for identifying billable patients, including private, Medicare ineligible, and compensable patients, and ensuring appropriate billing for services.

The team also assists with doctor billing under the private practice plan, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and positive revenue outcomes.

The Role:

The Finance Services Officer plays a key role in a multi-skilled team environment, providing high-level financial support with a strong patient focus to maximise hospital revenue. The position undertakes specialised financial and administrative duties, including maintaining accurate financial records, in accordance with relevant service standards, legislation, and Departmental policies and procedures.  

You will need:

  • Operational knowledge (or the ability to quickly acquire it) of financial instructions, legislation, accounting procedures and policies for receiving, processing, recording payments and adjustments, including an understanding of the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS), Health Insurance Act, Private Health Insurance rules and medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete tasks with a high degree of efficiency, accuracy and within deadlines, while maintaining a strong stakeholder focus and applying continuous quality improvement principles.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of patients (at times by patients’ bedsides), hospital staff, and external organisations on revenue and account matters.
  • Sound problem-solving and computer skills, including the ability to analyse information and data to resolve issues, make accurate decisions, and use word processing, spreadsheets, databases and financial information systems (or rapidly acquire these competencies).

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary: $73,811 to $79,779 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
