
The Team:
At the Department of Health Tasmania, the Ward Clerk works as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team committed to delivering safe, efficient, and patient‑centred care. The team collaborates closely with clinical staff, patients, and families to ensure smooth ward operations, accurate administrative support, and effective communication. Through teamwork, professionalism, and attention to detail, the team plays a vital role in supporting clinical services and enhancing the overall patient experience.
The Role:
In accordance with established policies and procedures relating to the clinical, financial and administrative requirements of Inpatient services unit, the Ward Clerk provides:
- High quality customer-focused reception services.
- Administration and clerical support across all areas of IOC.
You will need
- Provide frontline assistance to support the effective administrative operations of the Ward/Unit which includes:
- Assisting the general public, patients and clinical staff.
- Answering patient and public enquiries.
- Directing all incoming telephone calls to relevant departmental or clinical personnel.
- Support the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) by receiving and processing all direct admissions and discharges from the Ward/Unit including:
- The verification of discharge-planning protocols.
- Expediting discharges to assist the NUM, Bed Manager and Theatre personnel with the re-allocation of beds on the Ward/Unit.
- Arranging and scheduling appointments to ensure ongoing patient care.
- Accurately enter and retrieve patient information onto/from computerised patient information management information systems including the Digital Medical Record (DMR).

Details of appointment:
Fixed term, casual, position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 12 months.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar casual vacancies.
Salary: $66,049 to $70,993 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
