Job description:

Play a key role in providing administrative and rostering support, working closely with nursing leadership to keep operations running smoothly and ensure high-quality patient care.

The Team

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital in Tasmania. The hospital provides all general and specialty medical and surgical services as well as paediatrics, obstetrics and psychiatry. It is also the state’s tertiary trauma centre.

The Emergency Department (ED) provides a tertiary level service for people with illness or injury 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Our busy ED provides care for >75,000 patients annually with an admission rate of more than 35% and a paediatric case load of 20%.

The RHH Emergency Department has a co-located Emergency Medical Unit (EMU) which is a short stay ward for patients requiring a brief hospital stay (generally less than 24 hours).  The EMU has 24 short-stay beds operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a high turnover ward environment and a variety of clinical presentations.

The Role

  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the NUM and CNC in the Emergency Department (ED), ensuring the provision of a complete range of office management support services including minute/note taking, document production, organisation and scheduling of meetings and other appointments, maintenance of electronic diary appointments and travel bookings.
  • Undertake the day to day running of nursing and ancillary rostering services in the Emergency Department, including creating and editing of rosters. Provide effective rostering support by initiating action regarding appropriate staffing relief/allocation, identifying rostering shortfalls & updating ProAct to reflect daily rostering changes.
  • Collate staffing related management reports and maintain ProAct database integrity in terms of local staff data. Provide advice and support to the NUM and other stakeholders regarding the utilisation of the ProAct system.

You will need

  • Well-developed ability to work individually, and as a member of a team and a proven ability to be adaptable and flexible to achieve the best results in an environment of change, ambiguity and pressure.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the provision of a sensitive and confidential business support service, with highly developed interpersonal skills including communication, written, liaison and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, sensitivity and discretion, including the ability to interpret and analyse information and recommend or decide on appropriate action within a senior management environment.

Details of appointment

Fixed term, full-time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 12 months. 

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

$76,849 to $82,996 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025.
