
The Team:
The Workforce Strategy and Planning Unit (WSPU) provides statewide leadership in cross‑sectoral health workforce strategy, policy and planning, to build a sustainable, skilled and future‑ready workforce for Tasmania. The Unit delivers integrated, evidence‑based workforce planning aligned with service and infrastructure planning, leads implementation and monitoring of the Health Workforce Sustainability Strategy and Plan, and ensures alignment with national workforce reforms and priorities.
The Medical Workforce Policy and Strategy Unit (MWPSU) is a functional stream of the WSPU, providing dedicated leadership in medical workforce policy, strategy, education and training coordination, and medical staffing frameworks to support statewide consistency and sustainable medical workforce supply.
The Role:
- Lead statewide change initiatives and cultural reform by designing and delivering strategies that drive consistency in medical workforce systems, processes, and practices, ensuring smooth implementation across business, clinical, education and training environments.
- Manage communication and consultation processes to ensure transparency and engagement, building strong relationships with executives, health services, clinical leaders, and operational teams to foster cooperation and shared ownership of change, and facilitate resolution of stakeholder tensions that impact change adoption.
- Champion cultural change by promoting consistent, collaborative, innovative, and evidence‑informed approaches that support long‑term workforce sustainability.
You will need
- Demonstrated experience in leading large-scale system reform and implementation initiatives in complex environments, preferably within health or workforce systems.
- Highly developed analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to identify statewide inconsistencies and apply these capabilities to develop policy solutions and deliver effective change management strategies for complex issues and initiatives.
- Advanced stakeholder, influence, and negotiation capability, with a proven ability to build trust and maintain collaborative relationships with executives, clinical leaders, operational services, and peak bodies to secure acceptance of change, resolve implementation challenges, facilitate de escalation where tensions impede adoption and achieve aligned outcomes.

Details of appointment:
Permanent full time day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight*, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $132,460 to $139,392 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025.

- Formal qualifications or recognised training in change management, project management, organisational development, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
