Job description:

Ensure equipment is cleaned, sterilised, and maintained to strict infection control standards. Keep work areas spotless and organised and manage daily priorities to ensure beds are ready for incoming patients.

The Team

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital in Tasmania. The hospital provides all general and specialty medical and surgical services as well as paediatrics, obstetrics and psychiatry. It is also the state’s tertiary trauma centre.

The ED provides a tertiary level service for people with illness or injury 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Our busy ED provides care for >75,000 patients annually with an admission rate of more than 35% and a paediatric case load of 20%.

The RHH Emergency Department has a co-located Emergency Medical Unit (EMU) which is a short stay ward for patients requiring a brief hospital stay (generally less than 24 hours).  The EMU has 24 short-stay beds operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a high turnover ward environment and a variety of clinical presentations.

The Role

  • Decontaminate, sterilise and maintain general and specialised equipment within infection control guidelines and operate the sterilising equipment appropriate to the specialty area.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of specialised equipment including cleaning of the surrounding environment within infection control guidelines.
  • Plan and prioritise daily workload after handover to ensure readiness of beds and bed space for new admissions.

You will need

  • Ability to and/or have knowledge and experience in decontaminating, sterilising and maintaining the cleanliness of equipment and the environment according to infection control principles, policies and protocols.
  • Ability to monitor ward/unit stock and stores and undertake ordering where appropriate.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills with the ability and willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team promoting a harmonious working environment.

Details of appointment

Multiple permanent vacancies are available:

  • Multiple Permanent, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
  • Permanent full time, shift worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
  • Permanent part time, shift worker position, working 41 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

$65,827 to $68,854 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
