
The Team:
The Emergency Medical Dispatch Support Officer team at the Department of Health Tasmania plays a critical role in ensuring the effectiveness of emergency response services across the state. They operate in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment where collaboration, precision, and clear communication are essential. Working closely with Emergency Medical Dispatchers, paramedics, and other emergency service personnel, the team provides vital administrative and operational support that helps coordinate timely and accurate responses to emergency calls.
Team members are highly focused on maintaining data accuracy, supporting call-taking systems, and assisting with resource allocation processes. They contribute to quality assurance, documentation, and continuous improvement activities, helping to ensure that emergency communications meet strict clinical and operational standards.

The Role:
As a member of the Ambulance Tasmania (AT) State Operations Centre Team the Emergency Medical Dispatch Support Officer (EMDSO) undertakes call taking duties and/or non-emergency dispatch.
The EMDSO will receive, record and prioritise requests for ambulance services, using telephone, and computer aided dispatch systems and other ancillary communications equipment.
Provide high quality pre-arrival advice in accordance with predetermined algorithms.
You will need to:
- Receive, record and prioritise requests for ambulance services, including the provision of high-quality pre-arrival instructions, following mandatory predetermined decision-making algorithms.
- Operate in accordance with documented Standard Operating Procedures.
- Receive and make telephone calls concerning ambulance operations, public and administrative inquiries and any other relevant calls, including liaison with allied health care workers, other emergency service providers and support agencies.

Details of appointment:
Multiple fixed term full time, shift worker (fully rotational) positions, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $99,761 to $107,896 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Ambulance Tasmania Agreement 2022.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
